Hair today, gone tomorrow

pic from my Instagram

And just like that, I cut it. My, what Rich called "year worth of hard work" was chopped off yesterday. While I'm sad to see it go, I'm happy for this new found freedom. The weight lifted off my shoulders, literally. My mane was getting a bit too long and a little unmanageable. While at home, 99% of the time my hair is pulled back anyway. So I figured what was the point of having it.

About a month ago I decided to take the plunge and color my hair. This was the first time in over four years I had put any chemicals in it. Thanks to Pinterest, I wanted to try something new and trendy... ombre hair. If you're not familiar, google it. It's pretty darn cute when done right. So I had my hairdresser give me ombre. Turned out great. As usual, my hair looks flawless after leaving the salon. The following day after that first shampoo, something funky slowly but surely started to happen. For the first time in years, like 13+, my ends were drying out. This has not happened since my bleach blonde high school days. I'll spare you those pictures. hahaa
After a few days it was actually really gross... to me anyway. It didn't even feel like my hair on my head. In the weeks to come, I desperately tried everything to recondition and treat my hair. Fail! It got to the point where as soon as I got out of the shower, my ends were immediately dry. They got kind of rats nest-y too. That's when I made the decision to chop, chop. This is what I like to call my "mom hair". It's light, free, healthy and much cooler, especially while being pregnant in the dead of summer. (you'll even get a sneak peak at my 27 week belly)

Voila!

Speaking of pregnancy, today marks 27 weeks for us. Next week we will enter our third trimester. It's just crazy how quickly time is flying by. Even though I'm not documenting every week like before, I do still follow many websites to check on our baby boys development and progress. Rich was bugging me in the beginning to document our weekly belly shots, but I just don't have that kind of time, nor focus like I once did. My mornings now consist of waking up to morning snuggles from our little Spencie and  just enjoying our time together before I officially begin my work day and before the nanny comes. I absolutely love not only our mornings, but our time together. We have too much fun. Since I have current pregnancy pics from 15, 20, and 25 weeks, you can expect a 30 weeker soon.
Actually, I lied. You'll get a preview of us at 27 weeks because this weekend is our family maternity photo shoot with none other than our awesome photog friend Chrissy at Vitalic Photo. She and her adorable son, Tanner, and husband Thane will be coming to stay with us for the weekend. Looking forward to spending some quality time with them, and especially letting our boys run wild. Tanner is almost 20 months so he and Spencer are four months apart. It's been really cool watching them interact each play date since they were born.

Okeee, off to bed for me. Spence got up in the middle of the night last night crying for "mamamamaaaamama", so I'm a little more tired than usual. Not sure what was going on because he has exceeded my expectations with his new room and bed. He absolutely loves it and that makes me so happy. He's been going down no problem each night and nap time, and sleeps comfortably through the night. Thank goodness!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Until next week...

  1. Super cute new hair. I'm sorry the other didn't work out for you but a word to the wise, everything looks better online! Because I've been in the pool so much my hair has needed some extra conditioning. Last Saturday after coming out of the pool I put so much conditioner on my hair and left it there for about six hours! Much nicer after washing.

No surprise that Spencer went down so easily--he's a perfect little gentleman. :-)

    1. Why, Thank you :)

I've also wondered if the pool may have contributed to the dryness. We were in there two days after I had it done. I'm also thinking maybe it's pregnancy/ hormone related. I've read that the funny changes with pregnancy can make curly hair turn straight, oily hair turn dry, and vice versa. Oh, the joys of being a woman.
Hope you have a nice weekend! xo
